Little Hachikos

Have you watched the movie, Hachiko: A Dog's Story (or Hachi: A Dog's Tale) ? Based on a true story from Japan, it is a moving film about loyalty and the rare, invincible bond between a dog and his owner. If you have not watched the movie, I strongly urged you to do so.  My girl and I have watched it, possibly, 7-8 times and still counting, and she has also christened her favourite four legged fur ball, Hachiko.

This horlicks doggie biscuits, which we have re-branded as “Little Hachikos” in our household, have been circulating the blogsphere for quite awhile now.  I must be the last person to have discover it.  So many bloggers have made it, and posted it on their blog, so it’s difficult to say who should the credit go to.  Try it today, it will be a nice weekend project for you and your kids.

You will need:

Cookie dough:
180 g butter
80 g Horlicks
200 g all purpose flour
25 g custard powder
30 g milk powder

2 tbsp castor sugar
Adequate chocolate chips

Decoration:
Adequate Koko Krunch
Adequate chocolate chips
Adequate chocolate rice

Preparation:
Sift the flour, custard powder and milk powder together.
Cream the butter, Horlicks and sugar for 3 minutes at low speed. Do not overbeat. Add the sifted flour and beat for about one minute to form a dough.

Divide dough into 10 g each. Flatten and place 3 chocolate chips in the centre.  Wrap up the filling and roll into round balls.

Stick the chocolate rice, Koko Krunch and chocolate chip to form the eyes, ears and nose respectively.

Bake at preheated oven at 150 deg Celsius for about 25 minutes.

Cool completely before storing in air tight boxes.
